Apparel DesignFashion and apparel are interlinked with each other. This is evident from fashion shows displaying fashionable and trendy apparel.
Hence, aspiring students need to be aware of current, past and emerging trends in fashion and apparel. Moreover, they need to know various fabrics and accessories that match apparel. To achieve this, programs are available for training students in different aspects of apparel design and fashion. These programs span Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s along side diplomas and certifications. An example is the Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design. Importantly, the field requires creativity and ideas generation to fuel fashionable apparel. Add business dimensions to these 2 aspects and you have a potent combination for success. These programs usually span those elements plus textile and apparel product development, textile fundamentals, fashion forecasting, pattern making, sewing, draping, illustration & rendering and computer-assisted design.
The outlook for this discipline is positive with Bureau of Labor Statistics indicating that despite competition, demand continues to increase for apparel that is stylish, uniquely designed and affordable in the community. Earnings may be at lower end for beginners though it scales up once they establish themselves. Salaries are higher among salaried fashion designers as compared to self-employed or freelance designers. The middle 50% of this segment usually earn between $38,800 and $77,580 annually.
Apparel design programs are offered by University of Phoenix that strives for affordable quality education. The Art Institute offers programs helping students pursue their goals. Joining the league with multiple campus locations through the USA is International Academy of Design & Technology helping students acquire innovative design and technology skills.. Sailing ahead is Full Sail University with a reputation of being one of the premier media arts schools in the world. ITT Technical Institute offers a plethora of programs combining theory and practical application in a laboratory environment.
